Mr. Thomas Lee “Tommy” Payton, Sr., 79, of Newnan, died Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Born December 30, 1942, in Newnan, he was a son of the late Lee Roy Payton, and the late Connie Mae Smith Payton. Mr. Payton was a member of Born Again Ministries and was a former longtime member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. He married His wife, Dianne Morris on April 25, 1970, and they had 5 sons. Better known as “Captain Tommy” he worked for the Coweta County Prison Camp for 33 years and worked his way up to Deputy Director of Coweta County Public Works. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tim Payton, and a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Debra Payton.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Payton; sons, Wayne Bloodworth, Shane Payton (Jennifer), Mark Payton (Mandy), and Lee Payton (Tabitha); 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor T. J. Boyd, Pastor Tony Grant, and Pastor Brian Hosmer officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
