Shirley Burke Obituary

Mrs. Shirley (Thomas, Cannon) Burke of Newnan, Georgia died Monday, May 25, 2020. Shirley was 80 years old.

Born August 27, 1939 in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Shirley was the youngest of six children born to the late Mary and Charles Thomas.  Shirley lived in northwest New Jersey for 37 years and raised two boys Jeffery & Bobby Cannon. In 1977, Shirley met Mr. Jack Burke also of New Jersey. Jack also had two boys Shane and Brian Burke. In 1979 Jack and Shirley moved to Dallas, Texas and were married in 1981. Relocating to Roanoke, Virginia in 1983, Jack later retired and lived in Roanoke until his death in July of 2015. After 38 years of marriage, Jacks death took its toll on Shirley. In 2017 she decided to relocate to Newnan, Georgia to be closer to her son Bobby and wife Tina also of Newnan.

Shirley purchased a home in Newnan and after many years of maintenance free living, she now had a house and yard to care for. Learning how to garden brought her great joy along with painting with watercolors. She also loved to read.  In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Thomas, and her sister, Patricia Case.

Shirley is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeffery and Nancy Cannon of Newton, New Jersey, Robert and Tina Cannon of Newnan, GA, Shane and Amy Burke of Chadds Ford, PA, and Brian and Karen Burke of Sammamish, WA; brothers, William (Billy) Thomas of Hackettstown, NJ, and Robert (Bobby) Thomas of Philipsburg, NJ; grandchildren, Jeffery, Colin and Jessica Cannon, and Chris and Haley Burke.  Many Nephews and Nieces and wonderful friends also survive.
