Reverend George Horace “Buddy” Simmons, 79, died Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Born February 22, 1941 in Lawsontown, Alabama, he was a son of the late Horace Franklin Simmons and the late Lenora Howton Simmons. Buddy was a Minister of the Gospel, having been ordained in October 1974. He served Churches in Alabama, Louisiana, Illinois, and Texas, before settling in Georgia and was currently serving as an assistant pastor at the Church of God of the Union Assembly in LaGrange. He enjoyed reading and was a published author, and he loved treasure hunting and working in his shop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Ann Carr.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ann Simmons; sons, Robert Wayne Simmons (Tiffany) of Rogersville, TN, Jesse Franklin Simmons (Marletta) of Chatsworth, Charlie Alton Simmons (Betsy) of Newnan, and Torey Gerard Simmons, also of Newnan; daughter, Cynthia Dianne Carter (Bennie) of Scottsboro, AL; brothers, David Simmons (Karen) of Knoxville, TN, and Gerry Simmons (Margaret) of Bessemer, AL; grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Michaela, Jonah, Micah, Alec, Zachary, Spencer, Jay, Mason, Ethan, Liam, John Franklin, Jennifer, Alisha, Ethan, Levi, and Abigail; 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 in Hillcrest Chapel with Reverend Jim Harmon, and Reverend Kenneth Sisk officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will visit friends on Monday, one hour prior to the service. The family suggests that those who attend wear a mask and follow all social distancing protocols.
