Karen Froseth Obituary

Mrs. Karen Lou Bernhard Froseth, 83, of Newnan, entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at her home, with loving family by her side.

Karen was born September 1, 1939, in Newnan, Georgia to the late Geraldine Mobley and Woodrow Wilson Bernhard. She attended Newnan High School and soon after graduating, began work in the medical field. She dedicated more than 20 years at Papp Clinic where she assisted Dr. Lewis Collins with nursing, radiology, and lab. Later, while working as a medical technologist at Newnan Hospital, she continued her education, earning her associates degree in Medical Technology. She worked in the laboratories at both Coweta County hospitals until her retirement in 2001. In 1963, at a dance in Ft. Benning, Columbus, she met Donald Eugene Froseth. They were soon married and settled into their new home in Newnan. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 54 years, until Donald passed away in 2018. She was a faithful caretaker to him during his time of prolonged illness. Together, they raised three children, Randy, Ralph, and Donna, in Newnan. Alongside Don, Karen was very active in their church, Westside Baptist, where they were members since 1995. There, she worked in Awana, served in the nursery and after losing her husband, she appreciated the sweet fellowship of the Widows of Westside (WOW) gatherings. She and Don enjoyed traveling together, spending many vacations and weekend getaways at their cabin in the mountains of Dahlonega as well as treating the kids and grandkids to annual beach vacations. She enjoyed Yahtzee with the family and while playing, always reminisced of the ongoing Yahtzee game she and Don had sustained since 1963, for which she still held on to all the score cards. More than anything, Karen found great joy in taking care of and serving those she loved; cooking for them, taking care of her grandchildren, spending Sundays and holidays preparing elaborate meals with a generous heart. In her later years, watching game shows and sports with family became a nightly tradition. Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don; her sons, Randy, and Ralph Norton; and her brothers, Wilson, and Joe Bernhard.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Donna (Daniel) Boles; grandchildren, Scott Norton, Dylan (Shanna) Norton, Kelsie (Justin) Long, and Andy Boles; as well as her great grandchildren, Ralph Norton, Charlotte Norton and Eden Long.

With grateful appreciation, her family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Piedmont Newnan Hospital ICU for the kindness and skill shown to her in her recent illness, as well as Dr. Shazia Khan for years of constant, compassionate care in her prolonged battle with kidney disease.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, with Pastor Alton Midgett officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.
