Mr. John Preston Spivey, 85, of Newnan, died Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Born July 21, 1935 in Blue Springs, Alabama, he was a son of the late J. D. Spivey and the late Mary Lou Gulledge Spivey. Mr. Spivey was a very Godly man with a peaceful presence and was a member of Westside Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing and spending time with his Church family. He was a United States Air Force veteran and enjoyed Alabama football and watching Andy Griffith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Johnny Spivey, and Richard Bruce.
Survivors include his wife of over 26 years, Betty J. Spivey; daughters, Shelia Shaw of Phenix City, Jane Starnes (Ronnie), also of Phenix City, Marie Payton (Henry) of Moreland, Judy Cash (Barry) of Newnan, and Gloria Longino (Jack) of Wedowee, AL; sons, Jackie Bruce (Debbie) and Ronnie Bruce, all of Gay; sister, Faye Casey (Gerald) of Dothan, AL; brothers, Winston Spivey (Clara) of Louisville, AL, Frank Spivey (Debbie) of Dothan, Glenn Spivey (Glenda) of Mobile, AL, Larry Spivey (Judy) of Phenix City, and Kenneth Spivey (Gin) of DeFuniak Springs, FL; 19 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Alton Midgett and Dr. Melvin Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Southview (Moreland) Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
