Jerry Dwayne Lomax was born in Dry Branch, West Virginia on June 30, 1948. He was a resident of Fairburn, Georgia, and attended Westside Baptist Church in Newnan, Georgia. He served as a deacon, choir member, and as an ordained minister at the Avalon Nursing Home.
Jerry began working for the Norfolk Southern railroad in 1969 and continued working there until his retirement in 2000. During his career, he began as a carman and advanced to Foreman/Supervisor. Also, he served as a safety instructor for 'Operation Life Saver' and the Sandusky County Law Enforcement.
Jerry Lomax was a United States Army Veteran who served his country being stationed in Vietnam and Ft. Knox, KY. He was honorably discharged and continued to serve through the National Guard and his local VFW post, even serving as commander for a time.
Jerry peacefully left this world with his family and Sheryl, his wife of 53 years, at his side. He entered his Saviour's presence on June 25, 2021. His family rejoice in knowing that he is free of pain and in the arms of his Saviour. He was loved and will be greatly missed by those that remain.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, in Hillcrest Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Jerry will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
