James "Tony" Pettus Obituary

James “Tony” Pettus, 67, of Luthersville, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at his home in Luthersville.

Born on March 29, 1958, in Lineville, Alabama, he was a son of the late James Robert Pettus and the late Ollie Mae Kirkland Pettus. Tony was a man of many talents and interests. He dedicated many years to his work as a diesel mechanic and truck driver, a career that allowed him to combine his love for machinery with his desire to provide for those he loved. Outside of work, Tony's passions were as robust as his work ethic. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, embracing the freedom and camaraderie found on the open road. He also found solace in the quiet patience of fishing, a pastime that reflected his love for the outdoors. Tony's mechanical skills were not limited to his profession. He took great pleasure in working on cars, a hobby that served as both a creative outlet and a means of challenging himself. Tony loved animals and his two dogs, Diesel and Lala, along with his cat, Fluffy, were more than pets; they were family. The bond he shared with his animals was a testament to his capacity for love and companionship. Tony's strength was not just in his hands or his heart, but in his ability to face life's challenges with unwavering courage. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debra Pettus. As we say goodbye to Tony, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of moments that will be cherished by his friends and family forever.

Survivors include his brother, Chester Pettus (Michelle); his sisters, Donna Gable (Kevin), Vickie Pressley (Jack), Debbie McIntyre (David), and Connie Domangue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Lee Ayers officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

Serving as Pallbearers will be his nephews, William Ferrell, James Pettus, Michael Pettus, Calvin Pettus, Robert Pettus, and Tyler Domangue.

The family would like to thank Pastor Lee Ayers and the entire care team from Georgia Hospice Care that Tony dearly loved.
