Horace Monroe Jones

Mr. Horace Monroe Jones, 91, of Whitesburg, passed away, Monday, July 24, 2023, at his residence.

Born November 14, 1931, in Whitesburg, he was a son of the late F. W. Jones and the late Ruby Herrin Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired as a fossil fuel supervisor with Georgia Power. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and tending to his vegetable garden. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Alice Ferrell Jones; brothers, Marvin Jones and James F. Jones; sister, Peggy McElwaney; and son-in-law, Phil Eason.

Survivors include his daughters, Becky Mashburn, Donna Eason, and Karen Earnest, all of Whitesburg; grandchildren, Josh Mashburn and Daniel and Devin Mashburn; great-grandchildren, Makenzie Mashburn Lester, Jesoline Mashburn, Jace Mashburn, Josie Mashburn, and Noah Knowles; siblings, Betty Stanford, Carl Jones (Gloria), Jerry Jones (Betty), Lynda Smith (Jett), and Marzell Shadix (Jimmy); special friend, Edna Morek; and a host of other dear friends.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Alan Jones and Pastor Andy Whitley officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service, at the funeral home, on Wednesday.

Serving as Pallbearers are Ken Yearta, Kevin Jones, Wyndel Carnes, Stephen Springer, Larry Jumper, and Randall Wright. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alan Moore, Ronnie Pate and in memoriam the late, Larry Moore and Bob Morek.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Whitesburg Baptist Church Building Fund, 350 W. McIntosh Circle, Whitesburg, Georgia 30185, in memory of Mr. Jones.
