Dr. Alton Thomas Midgett, Sr., 81, of Newnan, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Born September 8, 1939 in Wilmington, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert Midgett and the late Gertrude Hill Midgett. Dr. Midgett accepted Christ as his Savior at 16 and was called to preach at 29. He dedicated his life to leading lost souls to Christ. Dr. Midgett was a member of Westside Baptist Church and the Founder and CEO of Global Fundamental Baptist Missions. He was a Minister of the Gospel, Missionary, Church Planter, published author, and the founder of schools and orphanages worldwide. Dr. Midgett was the Founder of Emmanuel Baptist College in Ontario, Canada, and the founding Pastor of Victory Baptist Church in Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada, and Calvary Baptist Church in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, Canada.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gayle Midgett; son, Pastor Alton Midgett, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Newnan; daughters, Denise Caldwell and her husband John, and Cynthia Midgett, all of Newnan; brother, Robert Perry Midgett of Wilmington, NC; sister, Barbara Eggestein of Jackson, MN; 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Westside Baptist Church with Pastor Alton Midgett, Jr., Reverend Jim Ferguson, Dr. Melvin Payne, and Reverend Gene Harmon officiating. Committal service will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend Fred Flowers officiating. Dr. Midgett will lie in state at the church, for visitation, one hour prior to the service.
