Mrs. Clair Mae Grantham Kight, 85, died Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Ansley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Newnan.

Mrs. Kight was born June 19, 1938, in Douglas, Georgia, the only child of Charles H. Grantham and Wilera Bennett Grantham Hayes. She grew up in Waycross where she graduated from high school. Mrs. Kight was a registered nurse. Her nurses’ training was from Warren A. Candler Hospital School of Nursing in Savannah. She began her nursing career at Newnan Hospital in the early 1960s working there for about 15 years and then was the plant nurse at the Playtex plant in Newnan. Later she worked as director of nursing in Newnan and at Alvista Care Home in Greenville. Her last position was at Warm Springs Nursing Home. She retired in 2005 to care for her mother. Mrs. Kight was a member of Unity Baptist in Newnan. She enjoyed going to the movies, playing golf, and visiting the beach at Jekyll Island, Tybee Island and Fernandina. She also was a voracious reader. In 1961, she married James Arch “Jim” Kight from Heard County. They had two sons, Jim, and Jay, and she was a devoted and caring mother. The Kights lived in Newnan until moving to Luthersville in 1969. Mrs. Kight was preceded in death by her husband in 2018 and by her parents and her stepfather, Yeager Eugene Hayes of Madras.

Survivors include her sons, Jim (Sallie) Kight Jr. of Newnan, Jay (Nique) Kight of Luthersville; grandchildren, Clair Lynn Kight, Quinn Kight, Austin Moore, Alexis Moore, Jacie Kight; sister-in-law, Jackie Williams of Watkinsville; niece, Stacy (Chuck) Reece of Clarkston; nephew, Joe (Kerri) Williams of Elberton; and several cousins.

A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Kight will be Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Luthersville City Cemetery with Rev. Winston Skinner officiating. The family will receive visitors at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, November 11, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
