Mrs. Alma Marie Allen, 93, of Newnan, Georgia, widow of the late Harold D. Allen, Sr., died Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Newnan.
Born March 11, 1929, in Jackson County, Georgia, she was a homemaker and resided in Winder, Georgia for 15 years before moving to Gainesville, Georgia for another 30 years. She settled in Newnan, Georgia to be near her family in 2005. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church at Center Methodist in Hoschton, Georgia, First Methodist in Winder, St. Paul Methodist, and McEver Road Methodist in Gainesville. She was a member of Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church in Sharpsburg, Georgia. Mrs. Allen was an active member of the United Methodist Women at Cokes Chapel and enjoyed sewing and bird watching. One of her favorite pastimes was camping and traveling, sometimes with family, Church groups or others, she traveled to all 50 states and several Canadian Provinces, as well as Mexico. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by twin daughters, Barbara Jean and Betty Jane Allen, and a son, Augustus Darius Allen.
Survivors include her sons, Harold D. Allen, Jr. (Cindy) of Sharpsburg, and Alvin Dennis Allen (Jan) of Lavonia; daughter, Sandra McDaniel (Wilford) of Newnan; daughter-in-law, Sherri Allen of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Bobbie Baker of Gum Log, GA; grandchildren, Tammy McDaniel, Scott McDaniel (Arlynn), Heather Megee (Tim), Marni Howard (Aron), Harold D. Allen, III (Karen), Augustus D. Allen, II (Mary), Joseph D. Allen, and Amanda Allen; great-grandchildren, Timothy Taylor, Jonathan Taylor (Ashley), Hannah McDaniel, Zakkary Megee, Peyton Megee, Emma Howard, Augustus Allen, III, Eleanor Allen, Kathleen Allen, William Allen, Arianna Allen, Ada Allen, Joseph Z. Allen, and Abigail Field; and a great-great-granddaughter, Elliana Taylor. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Georgia and Florida.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Hillcrest Chapel with Reverend Augustus D. Allen, II of First United Methodist Church in Alachua, Florida and Reverend Carson Thaxton of Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church in Sharpsburg, Georgia officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Barrow Memorial Gardens in Winder, Georgia, with Reverend David Gravitt, Methodist Retired Elder of Gainesville, Georgia officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
