Alice Annette Dunson Terrell, 85, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024.
Alice Terrell was born on December 18, 1938 to John and Gladys (Waller) Dunson in Atlanta, Ga. She grew up on Mundy’s Mill Road in Jonesboro and attended schools in the area. Throughout her life, she answered to Mama, Granny, Pet and Ippie , as well as to Annette or Alice.
She raised her three boys in the close-knit neighborhood of Batiste Park in Jonesboro and is described as an unconditional, loving mother. Primarily a homemaker for most of her life, she was widely known for her baking expertise, especially for her Red Velvet and German Chocolate cakes. She also loved gardening and possessed a remarkable green thumb; her yard was always full of gorgeous and abundant blooms.
She was also proud of her roles as a school crossing guard at Jonesboro High School, where she worked for several years, and as a security agent at Richway Department Store in Morrow.
More than anything else in her life, though, Alice loved being with her family. She was a special woman who made everyone else feel special, and she particularly enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Render Terrell, her parents, sisters Louise Dunson, Beverly Kellogg, and Silvia Jones, brothers Milton Dunson, J.W. Dunson, and Wilbur Dunson, and her son Ronald Hancock. She is survived by her siblings Jerry Dunson, Geneva Peach, and Jimmy (Linda) Dunson, sons Richard (Hien) Hancock and Russell (Valerie) Hancock, grandchildren Ricky Hancock, Kevin Hancock, Holly (Steven) James, Erin Hancock, Whitney (Zach) Brewer, Joey (Erin) Hancock, and Lindsey Hancock, and great-grandchildren Everett Hancock, Wyatt Hancock, Annabelle Hancock, Thomas Hancock, and Jesse James, in addition to several beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Visitation Service will be held at Hillcrest Chapel on February 24, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00. All are welcome to attend.
