Obituary

Mrs. Willie Mae Smith, 93, of Newnan, died Monday, March 24, 2025, at her residence.

Born April 4, 1931, in Lanett, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late James Hancock, and the late Estelle Proctor Hancock. Mrs. Smith was of the Pentecostal faith and loved to sing, travelling the area to sing in different churches. She also loved to read. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Smith, and brothers, Lester Hancock and Carthell Hancock.

Survivors include her sons, Terry Hyde (Maria) of Madrid, Spain, Danny Hyde (Marissa), and Tim Swofford, all of Newnan; daughters, Donna Hyde Christopher of Dahlonega, and Pam Stapler of Newnan; brother, Grady Hancock of Buford; sister, Jeanette Whatley of Newnan; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Pat Gosdin officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, one hour prior to the service.
