Countryman
August 23, 1934 – April 2, 2020
Mrs. Ruby Countryman, 85, of Newnan, widow of the late John Edward Countryman, Sr., died Thursday, April 2, 2020 at her residence.
Born August 23, 1934 in St. Andrews, Florida, she was a daughter of the late Perry Cleveland Pettis and the late Jennie Mills Pettis. Mrs. Countryman was a longtime member of Newnan First United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She retired from the United States Government after over 20 years of service as a legal secretary for the United States Army FORSCOM at Fort MacPherson. Mrs. Countryman was a social butterfly who enjoyed visiting with her church friends and playing cards and other games. One of her proudest accomplishments was the adoption of her two daughters. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Carter.
Survivors include her son, John E. Countryman, Jr. (Beth) of Woodstock; daughters, Sharon Boyd and Susan Countryman, both of Sharpsburg; brother, David Mills; sisters, Dorothy Thurman, Marie Finley, Patsy Miller, and Audrey Burns; grandchildren, Amy Stavely (Ryan), Eric Countryman (Sarah), Matthew Dickman (Melisa), Brian Boyd (Cari), Chris Boyd (Devon), and Trenton Countryman; mother of 4 great-grandchildren, Bethany Boyd; great-grandchildren, Ellie Stavely, Alexander Turse, Charlotte Countryman, Sadie Countryman, Daniel Britt, Peter Manus, Kieren Boyd, Jackson Boyd, Christopher Boyd, and Ember Boyd; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend Charles Robinson officiating. A public celebration of life is planned and will be announced when the current pandemic subsides.
The family suggests that those who wish may make donations to the American Cancer Society, Post Office Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or www.cancer.org in memory of Mrs. Countryman.
