Obituary

Rodney L. Vaughn Sr., 78, of Newnan, Georgia, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, October 2, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 27, 1947, to C.L. and Catheryne Vaughn, he was a lifelong resident of Newnan.

He had an extensive working life that spanned several careers. With a love for hot rods and airplanes, he owned and operated several successful automotive and aircraft businesses. He could design and build anything mechanical or structural, and he had an artistic eye and the innovative soul of a dreamer. He built cars, gold mining dredging equipment, and sought-after devices for the local auto industry. He served as a first lieutenant in the Georgia Defense Force, where he received commendations for his lifesaving work in his community.

He was at his best as a father and grandfather, always full of wisdom for his children as well as their friends as they navigated life. He was so proud of his two grandchildren, Ryan and Katie, and loved watching them grow into young adults. He lived a good life and was a great father-in-law and a good friend to many.

While we will miss him dearly, we are comforted to know that he has received his ultimate healing and is in the arms of Jesus. We look forward to reuniting in Heaven one day.

He is survived by his son, Rodney L. Vaughn Jr., and his daughter, Maria (Chris) Cook, along with his grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Cook.

A celebration of Rodney's life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Hillcrest Chapel. His dear friend Pastor Terry Calhoun will  officiate. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
