Mrs. Paula Ann Verdon, 74, of Sharpsburg, died Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Sacred Journey Hospice.

Born April 19, 1948, in Evansville, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Fred T. Ziegler and the late Vera Louise Schmittler Ziegler. Mrs. Verdon was of the Christian faith and was a strong, determined woman. She loved gardening, good conversation, and spending time with family. She also loved her dogs, Sierra and Savannah, dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Erica Jones, and a great-grandson, Roman Goodson.

Survivors include her husband of over 25 years, George A. Verdon; children, Brian Pitzer (Christina) of Keensburg, IL, Deric Jones of Newnan, Cherea Dixon (Warren) of Fayetteville, and Amy Farris of Athens, TX; siblings, Fredrick Thomas Ziegler (Cindy) of Virginia, Beverly Spencer (Chauncy) of Alapaha, GA, Vanessa Rister (Lee) of Carmi, IL, and Bonnie Cronin of Alapaha; bonus children, Bill Verdon (Wendy), Chris Verdon (Ashley), Tracy Gehl (Len), and Wendy Kellat (John); grandchildren, Lauren, Greyson, Laine, Paige, Shelby, Brooke, Brylee, Mathew, Kelli, Isaac, Elias, Erin, Sara, Sean, Drew, Chase, Destin  Chris, Bailey, Ethan, Ian, Kelci, Nicole, and Kylie & Caroline; great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Lincoln, Jonas, Noah June, Jack, Ellie, Lily-Ann, Aubree, Olyvia, and Aiden & Owen; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Hillcrest Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.
