May 21, 1935 – December 26, 2020
Norma Jean Saunders, 85, of Fayetteville, GA passed away peacefully on December 26, 2020, with her loving husband and children by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Earl and Emma Louise (Bayne) Sichveland; brother, Donald (Donnie) Norman Sichveland; sister, Katherine (Kathy) Louise Byler.
Norma Jean was born May 21st 1935, in Philipsburg MT. She graduated from Granite County High School. She was a member and served as Worthy Advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls, receiving the Grand Cross of Color Award, which is the highest award given to a member for outstanding service. Norma married Donald Eugene Saunders on June 10, 1956, and moved to GA and eventually settled in Fayetteville. Along with being a wonderful homemaker, Norma served as school bus driver for the Fayette County school system where she retired after 27 years of service. Norma was a faithful member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She loved her church, family, and friends.
Leaving to cherish her wonderful memory are her husband of 64 years, Donald Eugene Saunders; son, Dennis Kirk (Linda) Saunders; daughters, Cindy Kay (David) Wood, Donna Jean Saunders (Todd Gilmore), Sherrie Jayne (Lawrence) Phillips; grandchildren, Caleb Lee (Jessica) Saunders, Kelsey Lynn (Mack) Kreisch, Mackenzie Jackson (Taylor) Phillips, Dustin Jacob Phillips; great grandchild, Avery Brooke Saunders; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Sichveland; brother-in-law, Lonnie Byler, along with nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, GA. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 12:30. Cremains will be interred at Andersonville National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children in memory of Norma Jean Saunders. Donations may be given online at:
