Melissa Andrews Scott passed from this life to the next on August 18, 2024.
Born on March 11, 1962, in Newnan, Melissa graduated from Newnan High School in 1980, attended Mercer University, and earned her degree in Education at Texas Christian University (TCU). Melissa thrived while working as an elementary school teacher, teaching in the Arlington, Texas, school system, at Northside Elementary School in Newnan where she taught Language Arts for many years, and one year at the Heritage School. Melissa excelled as a teacher and, after she retired, she worked as a homemaker. She reared three children, tutored a number of children over the years, and spoiled a seemingly endless number of dogs and cats. Melissa loved nature's beauty and enjoyed dirtying her hands, and working outside with her plants, trees and garden. Melissa had an enormous heart and ability to show her compassion for all. She dearly loved her family and was devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Joyce Andrews, and her son, Davy Scott.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Christopher Scott; sister, Denise (Dale) Wilkin; daughter, Kathryn (Brian) Robinson; son, Payton Scott, and grandchildren, Asa Robinson and Silas Robinson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24th from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Newnan, to be followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn cemetery for the family beginning at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Melissa's memory be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1250 Lora Smith Road, Newnan, Georgia 30265.
