Obituary

Martha Demmerris Cook, 87, of Newnan, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Born October 2, 1938, in Carrollton, Martha was a daughter of the late William Wise Lankford and Jewell Walker Lankford. Over the course of her 87 years, she lived a life rich with simple joys and steadfast love for her family and friends. She found happiness in life’s quiet moments, an afternoon on her beloved porch swing, watching the birds pass by and the world move peacefully around her. Her home was filled with laughter, warmth, and cherished traditions, especially when her grandchildren visited and brightened her days. Martha also enjoyed the familiar comfort of television and was a devoted fan of The Golden Girls, whose wit and humor often reflected her own. She was equally passionate about the Atlanta Braves, cheering them through every high and low. Martha was known for her exceptional work ethic and determination. She believed in the value of hard work and remained dedicated to her career until the age of 82, a testament to her strength, independence, and commitment. Martha loved to travel, especially to the mountains and the beach, where the fresh mountain air and the sound of ocean waves brought her comfort, joy, and stories she delighted in sharing when she returned. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice Driver.

Survivors include her daughter, Renee Hall (Timothy); grandchildren, Emily Trammell (Brianna), Andrew Hall, and Matthew Hall; a special niece, Zelda DeSimone; and nephew, Mark Driver.

In accordance with Martha’s wishes, no service will be held.
