Obituary

Lucy "Carolyn" Crisp passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at Bridgeway Hospice inside Emory Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn was born on October 12, 1942, in Gainesville, Georgia to the late William Fowler and Maudine Fowler.

Carolyn was a member of Zion Baptist Church in College Park and later Tanners Baptist Church in Rex when the two churches combined. She was devoted to raising her children in the church and some of her dearest, closest friends were those she met many years ago at Zion.

After being a homemaker during her children's early years, she went to work for the Clayton County School System serving as the Cafeteria Manager at West Clayton Elementary School. She retired in 2007 after 32 years. Her co-workers were friends and she remained close to them as they continued to keep up with each other. She enjoyed traveling to conventions and taking trips through the food services association and some of her fondest memories were of their times at Jekyll Island.

Carolyn was an avid reader, and she had many talents including gardening, canning, cooking, and sewing. She also enjoyed the trips with her family.

Carolyn was married to Billy Gene Crisp for 66 years. They enjoyed spending time in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina where they lived for several years in retirement. Carolyn's greatest joy was her grandchildren and "Grandmother" was her favorite name.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by their children Connie and Hank Hensler, Sherry and Steve Pitner, and Sandy Manning. Her grandchildren include Lauren Pitner, Blake Hensler, Alexandra and Brady Griffith, Grace Hensler, Victoria and Sean Riordan, and Emily Larsen. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her infant son, Billy Gene Crisp, Jr., and a son-in-law, Finbar Manning. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly by all.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan, Georgia. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in College Park, Georgia.
