Obituary

Larry Thomas Cook, 75, of Meansville, died Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his residence.

Born May 16, 1948, in Newnan, he was a son of the late Thomas Herman Cook and the late Corene Ann Wood Wallace. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Larry served his nation during the Vietnam War with valor and was honored with the Purple Heart for his bravery. His service to his country was a significant part of his identity, and he carried the principles of the Corps—honor, courage, and commitment—throughout his life. Larry was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Thomaston, where he dedicated his time and energy as a Deacon. His faith was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding him in every action and decision. Larry's patriotism was matched only by his love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He took immense joy in their lives, attending every sports event, school activity, and milestone. His presence in the stands, cheering and offering words of encouragement, was a source of inspiration and support. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Cook.

Survivors include his children, Chris Cook, and Christy Durrough (Lee); sister, Mary Ann Shellnut; grandchildren, Taylor Davis (Desiree), Hannah Davis, Madison Cook, and Megan Cook; great-granddaughter, Skylar Connell; and daughter-in-law, Julie Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Derrick Keeter officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
