Obituary

John "Jack" Lyle Essex, 86, of Newnan, died Sunday, September 19, 2021, at his residence.

Born May 18, 1935, in South Bend, Indiana, he was a son of the late Lyle and Ruby Essex. He was a veteran of the US Naval Reserves and a member of the Newnan Presbyterian Church. Jack lived in many places including Indiana, Florida, North Carolina and eventually ending up in Newnan.  He worked at Indiana Bell/ Ameritech when he was younger with a specialization in microcomputers and electronics. He was truly a "Jack" of all trades and was never discouraged by the scope and size of any of the many projects he started on and completed. He passed on the passion of working with his hands to all his sons. He rebuilt and upgraded cars all his life and worked on personal computers as well. He also used his skills to upgrade every house in which he lived. He later found a passion for turning wood into bowls and boxes on his lathe.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sandra (Nee Mikel) Essex; sons, Douglas Essex (Debra), Scott Essex (Mary), Bruce Essex (Elizabeth) and Gregg Essex; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Newnan Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow the service at the church.
