Joann Collette
(Cox) Freeman
December 4, 1944 – January 17, 2025
Joann C. Freeman, 80, of Newnan, died Friday, January 17, 2025, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Born December 4, 1944, in Milstead, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Willard Cox, Sr. and the late Jewell Hazel Collette Winkles. A devout member of the Baptist faith, Joann cherished attending services at many different churches in the area. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Joann's love for her family knew no bounds, and she took immense pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren. An avid swimmer, Joann could often be found at the YMCA, where she enjoyed the tranquility and strength that came from her time in the water. Her hobbies extended to quiet evenings spent with a good book, sewing, and the aroma of freshly baked treats that she lovingly prepared for friends and family. Joann's tenacity was as much a part of her as her generous spirit. She was known for her stubborn streak, a charming quality that those close to her both admired and adored. It was this same determination that saw her through life's challenges and allowed her to savor its triumphs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Willard Cox, Jr.
Survivors include her children, Stacy Grant Freeman and his wife Paige, and Susan Freeman Fleming; grandchildren, Reeves Freeman, Grant Freeman, and Ardis Fleming; and a brother, Alan Winkles (Patsy).
In accordance with Joann's specific wishes, the immediate family will hold a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers or any other type of tributes, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Joann's charity of choice, RiverLife, Inc., Post Office Box 2105, Newnan, GA 30264, or online at https://livetheriverlife.com/donate in memory of Joann.
