Obituary

Jerry Jerome Haynes, 83, of Newnan, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, in Newnan.

Born on June 12, 1942, in Newnan, to the late Maron Jerome Haynes and the late Lillian Pearl Costley Haynes. Jerry was a man whose warmth was as expansive as the roads he traveled. Always happy and smiling, he never met a stranger, easily striking up conversations and sharing stories that captivated those around him. A great storyteller, his narratives were a reflection of a life rich with experience and memories. He found solace in nature, particularly in fishing and hunting, activities that allowed him to connect deeply with the outdoors, his place of peace and reflection. Throughout his career, Jerry covered 48 states as a truck driver, expertly balancing his time behind the wheel with his skilled work as a welder. His passion for travel was shared with his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Haynes, who predeceased him, and together they cherished exploring the vast landscapes of their country. A committed Christian, Jerry was an active member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church for many years, grounding his life in faith and community. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life, including enjoying a good meal and the company of those he loved. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his son, Jerry Aubrey Haynes.

Jerry is survived by his son, Jeremy Jerome Wesley Haynes; daughters, Pamela Applegate and Janet Tarleton (Bobby); sister, Shelby Jean Boswell (Ronnie); brother, Perry Taylor Haynes; daughter-in-law, Becky Haynes; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service to honor Jerry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Oak Hill Cemetery.
