Mr. James Lee "Jim" Wainright, 78, of Grantville, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at his residence, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born August 17, 1946, in Tampa, Florida, he was a son of the late Delbert Wainright and the late Corine Sapp Wetherington. Jim was a member of Community Christian Church and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for nearly 29 years and was instrumental in helping many others on their recovery journey. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors. Jim was an avid gardener and found peace working in his yard. Jim loved racing and was a huge NASCAR fan, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was his icon, and he also loved Dale Jr. He was an animal lover and dearly loved his 2 dogs, Tracker, and Penny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Vivian Johnson, Betty Turner, Doris Cummins, and Carolyn Cummins, a brother, Gilbert Wainwright, and a niece, Penny Cummins.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Peggy Wainright; daughter, Stacy Lee Wainright-Stevens; son, Daniel Wainright; grandchildren, Justin Powell, Amanda Baker, Khrystyne Stevens, Savannah Stevens, Cole Wainright, and Owen Wainright; great-grandchildren, Aiden James, Maylen Lei, River Rose, Isabelle Marie, Annabelle Lynn, Abigale Lee, Virginia Rose, Damien Brice, Allison Patience; and Anastasia Teresa; 6 nieces, 5 nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Celebration Of Life Service for James Wainright, known to many as NASCAR Jim, will be held Saturday September 7th at 1:00 at the Newnan Club, 80 Newnan Station Dr Suite A, Newnan, GA 30265, A time of Food & Fellowship to celebrate Jim.
