Obituary

Pastor Herbert "Jay" McCawley, 75, of Newnan, died Monday, August 30, 2021, at Heritage Inn of Barnesville.

Born August 1, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was a son of the late John Bennett and the late Colleen Claudia Bennett.  Jay served as a minister in the Christian Church for 35 years, pastoring churches in Kansas, Texas, Alabama, Indiana, and Georgia.  He was a member of Southwest Christian Church, and his favorite pastime was witnessing to others.  Jay was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan and enjoyed golf and bowling.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill McCawley.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years, Shirley McCawley; sons, Troy McCawley of Cullman, Alabama, Todd McCawley (Kathy) of Sharpsburg, and Trevor McCawley (Christine) of Dacula; grandchildren, Julian McCawley, Taylor McCawley, Austin McCawley, Ethan McCawley, Jalie McCawley, Chase McCawley, Samuel McCawley, and Melody McCawley; and his beloved dog, Max.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Southwest Christian Church with Pastor Craig Kingston officiating. Out of concern for others during the Covid 19 pandemic, the family requests that only family and close friends attend the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cambridge House, 2687 Hwy 154, Newnan, GA 30263 in memory of Jay McCawley
