Mrs. Hazel G. James, 85, of Clayton, formerly of Newnan, passed away, Thursday, June 1, 2023, at her residence.

Born April 5, 1938, in Griffin, she was a daughter of the late George Smith and the late Carrie Chappell Smith. Hazel was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed the little things in life like her housecoat, little debbies, coffee, playing cards and taking care of her grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Nancy Friedman and Dwayne James, Sr.

Survivors include her children, Beth Leach, Randall James, Sr. (Faith) and Gregory James; grandchildren, Randall James, Jr., Alston James, Trevor James, Dwayne James, Jr., Ricky James, Tonya Jackson, Michael Spence, Holly Alexander, Gabrielle Gilley and Dylan Hall; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Terry Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 5, 2023, one hour prior to the service.
