Obituary

Grace Elizabeth Stafford Bogolin (nee Bowers, Potter) went to sleep with Jesus on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the age of 93.  She was born September 15, 1928 in Hampton, Tennessee to the late Thomas Harvey, Sr. and Mina Helen Franklin Stafford.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Roger Lee Potter, Jr.; and Christopher Brian Potter; brothers:  William Stafford, Earl Stafford; Jerry D. Stafford; Thomas Harvey Stafford Jr.; Kenneth Paul Stafford; sisters:  Nelta Potter, Christine Laws, Gladys Stafford Hampton Eller; Ruby Stafford Sams, and Rheanna Stafford.

She is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Regis Joseph Bogolin; daughter, Judy Bowers Head of Jackson Heights, NY; sons, Roger Lee Potter of Newnan GA; Andy (Patricia) Potter  of Montgomery, AL; Claude (Sheila) Potter of Lexington, NC; and Joseph (Debra) Bogolin of Newnan, GA; sister, Nora (Jesse) Dooley of Whitesburg GA; sisters-in-law, Grace Stafford, Janice Stafford, and Jean Stafford.  Also survived by seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Grace was raised on Buck Mountain, in the Roan Mountain, TN community during the depression and World War II.  It was tough times for the family working on their small farm.

She attended the Laurel Fork School House-a one-room school-and the Laurel Fork Church of Christ.  She told stories of carrying wood for the building of the current Church house when she was in her teens.

Grace moved to Elizabethton where her daughter Judy was born.  She worked in the Elizabethton laundry which started her on a career in the laundry business.  She married again producing children Roger, Andy, and Claude.  During this time the family moved to Forest Park, Georgia in the late 50s, where Grace went to work for Forest Park Cleaners eventually becoming the manager and later the manager of Spic and Span Cleaners.

An expert seamstress, there was nothing Grace couldn't make with a sewing machine.   She dedicated her life to her children, their activities and their sports.   In 1969 she married Regis. Shortly thereafter came a move to Jonesboro and Joey joined the family.

Grace was an avid sportsman.  She loved Golf, Bowling, and fishing.  There were not many days that she did not play golf.  A member of the Georgia Women's Golf Association and later the Senior Women's Golf Association, she played courses all over the state.

She was an Atlanta Falcons fan, and the #1 Atlanta Braves Fan.  She attended many Braves games at Atlanta Fulton County stadium, loading the kids up and heading to the game.  If the Braves were on TV, she was watching.  Nothing gave her more pleasure that the Braves World Series Championships in 1995 and 2021.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Higgins Funeral Home Hillcrest Chapel, 1 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan, GA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service with her nephew and Minister, Kirk Sams, Kannapolis Church of Christ, Kannapolis, NC, Officiating. Interment will be at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the Haven of Rest Memorial Park, 3736 Red Bud Road NE, Calhoun, GA.  Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
