Obituary

Glen Robert Newman, Jr., 78, of Newnan, died Friday, August 15, 2025, at his residence.

Born February 1, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the only child of the late Glen Robert Newman, Sr., and the late Norrenna Lowe Newman. Glen's journey began in the heart of the automotive world, but his path took a turn towards service and valor when he joined the United States Army. Serving in Vietnam as part of the 35th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division, Glen displayed extraordinary bravery and commitment. His heroism was recognized with two Purple Hearts for wounds received in combat, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, and the esteemed Combat Infantryman's Badge. After his military service, Glen earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Phoenix and continued to contribute to the defense of the nation through his work with FMC Defense Systems. As a member of the design teams for both the M1 Abrams and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, his intelligence and attention to detail were instrumental in advancing the safety and effectiveness of these critical military assets. An accomplished and award-winning painter, Glen's artistic talents were recognized beyond his immediate circle. His oil paintings, especially those commissioned by the Lexington, Kentucky Police Department to honor their service dogs, captured the spirit and valor of these loyal companions. His art was not just a hobby but a means of connecting with and contributing to the community. Beyond the canvas, Glen found joy in the study of geology and had a passion for genealogy. Above all, Glen was a loving family man. His devotion to his relatives was unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His courage, intelligence, and loving nature were the pillars upon which he built his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline Newman; children, Kimberly Marie Snyder (William) and Paul Abram Newman; grandchildren, Brittany Norrenna Smith, Amber Lee Snyder, Josephine Morgan Snyder, Brieghana Paige Avula, Chloe Laine Welk, Demi Rae Newman, and David Scott Wren, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Slader Oscar Smith, Dominic Alexander Wilson, River Charley Welk, Meadow Norah Welk, Honey Bea Welk, and Miles Rory Williams.
