Obituary

George Buren Lassetter, age 80, a pillar of the Newnan community, known for his work ethic, generosity, and captivating stories, passed away peacefully at his home on May 16, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Born on March 10, 1944, to Amos and Ruth Lassetter (deceased), Buren's life was a testament to hard work and dedication. He began his career with a series of jobs at Bibb Manufacturing, William Bonnell, and Blue Flame Gas, honing his skills and entrepreneurial spirit.

In 1971, Buren's vision came to life with Lassetter and Payton Grading and Paving. The company, built alongside his partner, paved countless streets and facilities that continue to serve Newnan today. This accomplishment embodies the legacy Buren leaves behind – a man who could "turn nothing into something."

In 1979, Buren and his wife, Jackie embarked on a new chapter, opening Coweta County Gas. He ran the business with the same dedication he poured into everything he did, ultimately retiring in 2003. He was a Mason and a member of the Sylvan Lodge #429, a Deacon at New Lebanon Baptist Church for 25 years, and a devoted member of Unity Baptist Church of Newnan.

Retirement brought new passions: dirt track racing, fishing, farming, and working on his tractors. But Buren's greatest joy remained his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished uncle. His intentional love and playful teasing were legendary. He adored spending time on his porch, regaling everyone with his stories, a gift that will be deeply missed.

Buren leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and a love for family that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Buren Lassetter; brothers, Bernard Lassetter, and Buford Lassetter (Lynn); sisters, Frances Duncan (Roy), and Fay Payton (Bruce).

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Dyer Lassetter; daughter, Daphne Eskew (Kenneth); sister, Frieda Duffey (Tyrone); grandchildren, Morgan Liebert (Bryan), Whitney Hastings (Trent), Devin Lassetter (Holly), Dyer Lassetter (Kristen), Lindsay Higgins (David); great grandchildren, Brittany Liebert, Kaitlyn Liebert, Hunter Liebert, Addy Lassetter, Ayla Lassetter, Colt Hastings, Amos Lassetter, Drake Hastings, Amelia Lassetter, Annabelle Lassetter, Charlie Higgins, Mary Margaret Higgins; sister-in-law, Patricia Lassetter; longtime family friend, Marian "Slim" Broome, Jean and Sammy Whitten, and Brenda Clark; many nieces, nephews, cousins; extended family and friends.
