Obituary

Gay Cobb, 81, of Phenix City, AL, passed away, on Monday, August 17, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family.

Born January 19, 1945, in Piedmont, AL, to the late Albert Cobb and the late Bessie East Cobb. He retired from Vulcan Materials where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Gay was a family man and enjoyed spending as much time with his family as possible. He enjoyed the outdoors especially gardening and fishing. He could often be found on a lake, with his brother/best friend, Ray Cobb fishing and somehow napping at the same time. He also loved NASCAR and was a loyal fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Jonie Cobb; brothers, Wayne Cobb and Ray Cobb; sister, Linda Fay Cobb; and 9 half-brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his sons; Richie Cobb (Carol) and Brian Cobb; daughter, Anita Worrell (Mike); “favorite niece” and caregiver, Alena Goosby (Jeric) and their children, Layklynn and Faylynn; grandchildren, Donald Jeremy Woodard, Tiffany Michelle Vermillion, Jennifer Marie Gray, Cynthia Marie Rice, Micheal Ray Worrell, II, Johnathon Dewayne Cobb, Colby Keith Cobb, Jacob Curry; stepson, Larry Curry; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday August 22, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Bryan Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the church.
