Mrs. Evelyn E. Slaton, 81, died, Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Fayette Piedmont Hospital.

Born June 24, 1939 in Hopedale, OH, she was the daughter of the late Charles Blair Gilbert and the late Bertha Ellen Slentz Gilbert. Evelyn was an active and dedicated member of East Newnan Baptist Church for 57 years. She was the custodian of the church for 24 years, where she also enjoyed teaching Sunday School. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Charles Slaton; son, Bruce Slaton; and brothers, David Gilbert and Harold Gilbert.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Pryor (David); grandchildren, Ashley Pryor, Stephanie Pryor Lambert and Matthew Pryor; great grandchildren, Sydney Lambert, Elizabeth Lambert and Bentley Pryor; brothers, Carl Gilbert (Vera), Ralph Gilbert (Diane) and Chuck Gilbert; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at East Newnan Baptist Church with Dr. Anthony Langley and Rev. Frank Powers officiating.  Mrs. Slaton will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 12, 200 from 6:00 pm. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
