Adel Whitlock Miller, 85, of Newnan, passed away Sunday evening, January 12, 2020 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Adel Miller graduated from Newnan High School in 1952, part of the first graduating class from the current NHS campus. She then studied at Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She served her community for many decades as a Nurse for Newnan Hospital. She also served her community as a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Newnan. Friend, classmate, and colleague Dr. Jimmy Thommasson remembered “her wonderful bedside manner - one of the finest nurses at Newnan Hospital. Patients loved her and Doctors respected her for her knowledge and efficiency in her care.” Dressed in the nurse’s attire of her time, all white from her shoes to her cap, she could have easily been mistaken for an angel. Beautiful in every way a woman could be, Adel Miller loved and adored her husband, family, friends and community. She was cherished in return. Truly, she was an angel among us.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her loving sister Myrtle W. Jackson; sister in laws, Elva A. Whitlock, Mildred M. Furr, Christine Miller. She is also survived by several generations of adoring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Carl G. Miller; sister in laws, Doris M. Rowe (Selman), and Lurline M. Dickinson (Ray), Leatrice M. Joiner, and brother-in-law, O. C. Miller. She was the eleventh and final child born to Ed D. Whitlock and Winnie W. Whitlock, and baby sister to Vernar Whitlock, Lucille W. Brown (Harvey), Paul Whitlock (Louise), Kate W. Logan (Joe), Edna W Rooks (Harvey), Ed Whitlock (Martha), Dennis Whitlock, Wendell Whitlock, and Buford Whitlock. All preceding Ms. Miller.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 in Hillcrest Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Patterson and Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
A special thank you to her kind and compassionate caregivers, Maryland Davis, Jeanette Gaston, and Carmentia Smith. Adel Miller was blessed to be comforted by these amazing women.
